Chanakyashreyika-chapter 2- “Anvekikī: The Intelligence You Either Use or Waste”

Ānvīkikī is the lamp that illuminates all sciences,
the guide of all actions,
the foundation of all dharmas,
and the eternal means for attaining ‘artha.’

The term "Anvekshiki" refers to heightened intellect. It can be broken down into two parts. "Anu," which means "after" or "followed by," and "Eksha," derived from the root "eekshana," which means "to see." To convey this meaning more effectively, I will use the word "inspect." Thus, the term "Anvekshana" is formed. In this context, Acharaya Chanakya shares the essence of knowledge—knowledge of various kinds. Anvekshiki is a fascinating concept worth contemplating. All the greatest inventions to date, and the greatest invention yet to be born, are credited to Anvekshiki. It is a part of one’s attitude towards knowledge. The sutra states that it is ‘sarvavidyanam pradipaha,’ which implies that one who follows the philosophy of anvekshana may be in any walk of life, in all actions, and is guaranteed to excel there. Why it is the base of dharma? It tests. It tests every fact before it is presented in this world. And dharma only comprises truth, the clear reality. Thus, further, this ‘anvekshiki’ will be the reason to excel in gaining Artha.

How, where and why to apply anvekshiki? By developing a thirst for knowledge. By choosing how and what knowledge one is consuming. Being conscious of what you are doing at the moment. And thus, generates power within you to think supernaturally, think beyond what is visible to all and thus greatest karma are born, and through the greatest karma greatest form of Artha is guaranteed. The power of anvekshiki is to make you outstanding, survive and dominate the competition. Now, if you are fragile enough to say no to the right competition and deny continuous enhancement, anvekshiki may not befriend a person like this. Where to apply Anvekshiki- Everywhere- Personal life, professional life, social life and for self- Makes you an undefeatable individual. Don’t believe it just by reading this. Do what it is- Test. Analyse. I hereby sum up this as – “Having the potential to analyse and use knowledge but not acting on it is a bird in a doorless cage—fed, miserable, and gifted with wings it refuses to use.”

In my opinion it is not that the bird refuses to use the wings. The cage captured her freedom, so that the bird is not allowed to fly even if it wants to.
Hi! I acknowledge the thought presented by you. Although, the cage "seems " to have trapped the bird's freedom, it jas not made it paralyzed. The thought metaphorised is: The efforts on bird's end- it is limiting itself because it feels safe, or even because it is fed. While this metaphor is given after explaining anvikshiki- is because all your actions come by thought. And importance here is given to the bird should 'Think about flying, atleast think about flapping the wings! If focus on limiting favors around us they will be plenty and you'll be just engading in finding more of them .! Here the motto of the metaphor was to make people realise the power of anvekahiki- the high intwllectual contemplation- the ultimate use of intellect by bringing about right questions and thoughts in mind. Thank you for posting such an amzing pov of yours!
